Rumours were current in South London on Saturday (says tlie Westminster Budget of 31st October) that an attempt had been made to blow up one of the stands erected for sightseers to witness the King's progress to St. Paul's. In ' the afternoon, George Martin, an unattached clergyman of the Church ~of England, -was charged with having a pound of gunpowder in his possession ■with intent to commit felony. It was stated that the accused objected to such stands being erected upon consecrated ground, and that he called upon a Mr. Heath on Saturday morning and said he wished to blow up the seats around St. George's Church in the Borough.
