THE SHIPOWNERS' POSITION.
Several gentlemen whose interests are concerned with Australian shipping were approached by our representative. The outlook, according to the views expressed, is not a very encouraging one. The shipping companies have, it was stated, undoubtedly lost a considerable amount of money, of late, and are quite prepared to lay up their boats if the men should go out on strike. Also, the companies are bound together by a very strong federation, and are not at all likely to give way to demands Avhich they consider excessive.
