At the Fruitgrowers' Conference it was agreed that the Secretary should write to the Auckland M.H.R.'s asking them i.> co-operate in obtaining such an amendment of the Sale of Liquor Control Act as shall exempt New Zealand wines fiom the operation of the Act ; also to the Premier and Minister of Agriculture, pointing out the nselessness of spending money in encouraging planting vineyards while the industry is lirtble to be wiped out at any time, and suggesting the Government should take action to obviate that. It was also urged that steps should be taken to examine wines to prevent adulteration. The Government is to be urged to provide for rigid inspection of all wine made in New Zealand ; also that imported into the colony. The Government Viticulturist (Signor Bragato) said he had already taken steps towards establishing a laboratory in which all wines could be examined.
