LOCAL AND GENERAL. «> The Premier will not return to Wellington until to-morrow. He will attend a social gathering at Palinerston North 10-night in honour of Mr. Wood, M.H.It. The Minister for Lands is still confined to his room in Wellington with a severe attack of colic. The Minister for Education is to return from Christchurch on Monday. Operations at the various Government poultry depots are again becoming brisk. At the Christchurch depot last week about 1000 birds were killed and dressed for export. The output of the depots for the, current financial year will greatly exceed that for the year 1901-2. For the past eight months the volume of busi; ness has 'been greater than that for the whole twelve ■foom.is previous. The Minister for Public Works will leave Wellington on Monday for the purpose of formally opening the WaiparaScargiU section, (about fourteen, miles long) of the Waipara-Blenheim railway on the following day.
