THE PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY

PICNIC AND ORGAN RECITAL. A party of 230 took part in the picnic to Day's Bay on Saturday afternoon, and .greatly enjoyed the outing. Afternoon tea was provided. Just betore the party left again for the city, the Rev. Mr. Gibb (Dunedin) returned thanks on behalf of the visitors for the hospitality shown by the Wellington Presbyterians. In the evening St. John's Church was crowded, the occasion being a complimentary organ recital given by Air. Maughan Barnett, assisted by the choirs of the Presbyterian churches of Wellington. Mr. Barnett contributed compositions by Mendelssohn, Wolstenhohne, Saint Saens, Handel, Guilmant, Spinney, and Wely's popular Fantasie Pastorale, introducing the storm. The united choir sang Stainer's anthem "What are These?" and Sullivan's "Hearken Unto Me," Mr. W. Hughes taking the solo in the latter item. / SUNDAY SERVICES.' Delegates attending, the Assembly held services throughout the city and the province yesterday, and several addressed a no-licenbe meeting .at the Opera Houfe last night. St. John's Church was packed to the doors yesterday afternoon, when a young people's gathering was addressed by the Rev. Hugh Kelly (Auckland) and Rev. J. Chisholm (Roslyn).
