DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.

The Theatre Royal was reopened on Saturday night by Mr. P. R. Dixs Company, and patrons showed their appreciation of the fact by "attending in strong numbers. Tie company is a very sound_ one ; there are about a dozen artists in it, and their abilities are much above mediocrity. Callahan and Mack," for their clever sketch, " The Old Neighbourhood," with all its charm, its pathos and humour, were recalled again and again, and the burlesque on the Dartos by Miss Olive Lenton and Mr. Frank M. Clark was full of the humour that compels laughter. Mr. Brown Parker, athlete aud ball-puncher, made his first appearance since landing in the colouy, and his " turn " was unique in every respect Quick, clean, and business-like, he won continual applause.- The well-known barritone, Mr. Ernest Fitts, has lost nothing from a musical point of view since he last sang to Wellingtonians, and Misses May Lewis, Jennie Johnston, Messrs. Sam Rowley, and Joe Cowan helped to pass the evening very pleasantly. In addition, au interesting set of films were shown from a bioscope. The Willoughby-Geach Comedy Company opened with "The Wrong Mr Wright" at Christchurch on Saturday evening, and scored immensely with the laughable comedy. The Wellington season begins on the 24th inst. '• ' The Majeroni Dramatic Company arrived from the South yesterday, and went on this morning 'to Masterton. Aftemrards, a six night's season is to be played at Wanganui. The company will appear in Wellington when the Opera House is available. To-night the boxing tournament at the Choral Hall will take place. There are several special items in th» evening's programme announced elsewhere.
