[by tblegbaph— pbess association.] AUCKLAND, 16fck November. An accident occurred ai> Ellerslie railway station, resulting in the death of Mr. W. M'Fnrquhar, of Onehunga. The Vain Bad stopped, and was starting again ifter the passengers had alighted, when Mr. M'Farquhar appeared on the plattorm of a carriage and jumped off with his fcaok to the engine. He was thrown down, and rolled under the wheels of the' train. The unfortunate man was terribly mangled, and died soon after the train was pulled up. WESTPORT, This Day. Messrs. Truelove and Morgan, of the Citizens' Life Insurance Company, narrowly escaped drowning in a flooded dip on the Buller-road on Saturday. Finding the water too daep, they attempted to turn their trap, which capsized. The horse was drowned,' but the men escaped after a struggle. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. William Watkins, aged 18 years, wnust out. rabbiting near Rapaki yesterday with a companion, fell down a cKff a hundred feet high, and died soon afterwards. PALMERSTON N., This Day. The body of a man unknown, aged between 35 and 40, was found in the Manawatu River, at Foxton, yesterday. Deceased had evidently been dead about three months. NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Parker, the foreman, who was injured in the Commonwealth Hotel fire, died yesterday.

Mr. J. S. Carver, of Hunterville, shot himself last Wednesday in his shop. The cause. of the act is (says the Hunterville Express) unknown, though it is thought it had some connection with the serious accident which deceased sustained when letting off fireworks on Coronation Day, through which he nearly lost his eyeflight. Since that accident he had not slept well. At the inquest a verdict of Suicide while temporarily insane was returned.
