THE RELIEF FUND.
HANDSOME DONATION FROM THE HUDDART-PARKER COMPANY. This morning the Mayor of Wellington received the following letter from the local representative of the Huddart-
Parker Company, proprietors of the wrecked vessel: — "As it is now unfortunately certain that a considerable number of lives have been lost, there is no doubt that a relief fund will be necessary in the interests of humanity. We have the honour to advise that our contribution to that fund will be £500. We have already become responsible for clothing and board supplied to those in need of it when landed at Auckland ; but these amounts would naturally become chargeable to a relief -fund. — We have, etc., Huddart-Parker and Company Proprietary, Limited, C. W. Jones, Wellington Manager." The chief engineer, Mr. R. Fraser, who is thought to be on board the missing boat, is a married man and has two children at his home in Sydney. He came to the colonies as second engineer of tho Westralia, and at different times was chief of the Tambo and the Burrumbeet. He was appointed less than a year ago to the Elingamite.
