The following programme, showing the total^prize-money in each race, for the Championship regatta to be held at Wanganui on the 19th February, 2903, has been decided upon : — Champion Fours, £65 ; Champion Double Sculls, .£18; Champion Single Sculls, £12; Champion Pair Oar, £18 ; Senior Fours, £20; Maiden Fours, £12; Junior Outlig Four, £20; Junior Clinker Fours, £15; total, £180. ASHBURTON, This Day. Mr. David Gordon Holmes, a pioneer gettler in Ashburton County, and under whose supervision the" Lyttelton tunnel was constructed, died,at his residence, at Bakaia. on Wednesday night, aged 67. GISBORNE, This Day. A citizens' welcome home was' given yesterday to Colonel Porter, who commanded the Seventh Contingent in South Africa and the Coronation Contingent. The Mayor presided. Replying to speeches, Colonel Porter paid a tribute to the New Zealanders, mentioning the opinion of Lord Kitchener. There were 300 applicanta for the Crown lands sections thrown open for selection in the Motu, Muhaka, Nawa, Hangaroa, and Opoiti districts. A poll of the ratepayers was taken yesterday on the proposal of the Borough Council to raise "a loan of £70,000 for a water supply for the town. Only a small number voted. The proposal was carried by 348 to 38. DUNEDIN, This Day. The Arbitration Court concluded the Bearing of the brickmakers' dispute yesterday. In a case of breach of the ironvorkers' award) a- range manufacturer ■was ordered to pay £10 16s to the union, being the difference, between the pay given to- the man employed and the scale fixed in the award, the union to deduct reasonable expenses and hand the balance to the employee. The proposal to borrow £11,350 for metalling roads in the county was cartied at the poll by a large majority.
