The Rev. G. Bond and the Rev. W. Shirer have been nominated "as fit persons to appoint one scrutineer to act at each balloi-box in the interests of all electors of Newtown who are in favour of the proposal that no licenses be granted in the district." Their nomination paper is signed by John Barr, painter, Geo. S. Faircbildi overseer, A. W. R. Paltison, manager, Win. J. Colley, carpenter, Arthur .Miller, laundryman, Arch. A. Whitelaw, stereotyper, Stephen Boiall, stationer, Arthur W. Nicol, plumber, Alex. J. Rand, builder, Rev. Walter L. Saltcr, Wm. A. Pearznan, hatter, Grace A. Mitchinson, bookfolder. Mr. Justice Edwards will deliver judgment at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow in the action the Mayor of Wellington v. Plimnier and Ballock v. Anstice. One of the details in dispute to-day in the action. FitzGerald y. Turnbull (architect) was the substitution, in connection with the cast-iion verandah columns, of local work for the Glasgow article. Mr. Swan, architect, considereit that the local work of this class was not nearly as good as the imported castings referred to. It is understood that the price of flour has again been raised, this time by £1 per ton, thus making- it £11 f.0.b.,0r i)l2 in Wellington. So far as w« have been able to a«certain, local merchants can assign no reason for this increase, but it is presumed that the Millers' Association will attribute ib as an outcome of the extra demand caused by the drought in Australia, where, as will be seen by our cable messages to-day, prices have also increased. One merchant pointed out that flour has gone up in New Zealand £6 to £11 per ton within eighteen months, and drew attention to the fact that in the same period wheat on the London market had kept at about 29s and 30s per quarter. It is improbable that there will be any increase in the present piice of bread, but the matter was expected to come before a meeting of the Master Bakers' Association this afternoon. <■> The case of William C. FitzGerald, 'chemist, v. Thomas Turnbull, architect — claim £800 damages — was continued in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon and to-day. The claim is based on the ground of defendant having given to building contractors employed by plaintiff a certificate binding on plaintiff for payment of £764 19s 6d, having withheld from plaintiff a certificate enabling him to enforce overtime and other penalties against the contractors, and (alternatively) having been negligent as an architect in the supervision of the work as regards omissions, variations, etc. Plaintiff's evidence was concluded this morning. The evidence of John Swan, architect, of Wellington, was directed chiefly to • the question of neglii gence in supervision. i The attention "of the public generally and caterers and. fish dealers in particular is directed to an announcement of tho Wellington Co-operative Fishing Company which appears in our advertising columns. The Secretary of the company - and two of tho directors Have just returned from a trip around the fishing stations adjacent to Wellington, and aro quilo satisfied as to tho quantity of fish available, which they state will afford an unlimited and steady supply for this market. Tho company's steamer Phantom left last evening, and will arrive with a supply of fish, which will be sold on board the steamer at 6 a.m. ou Friday morning. Messrs. Sidey, Meech and Co. draw attention to their unreserved sale of pictures at thpir rooms to-morrow. The pictures are described as nn exceptionally good lot. T hey aro to bo sold absolutely without reserve.
