[BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Yesterday was set apart by the Baptist Union as a missionary day, efforts being concentrated to strengthen the hands of the New Zealand Baptist Foreign Missionary Society. The Rev. J. Takle, missionary on furlough from Brahmanburia, was present. His annual report showed a steady increase in the influence of the mission in the province. An appeal was made for more native preachers. The. annual report. and bal-ance-sheet showed receipts £1567, expenditure £1231. Adding the adverse balance last year — £572 — the totals disbursements were £1803, therefore the year closes with a debit balance of £367. The adoption of the report was agreed to. The Rev. J. J. North moved — "That the Baptist Missionary Society in annual meeting urges the fostering of subscriptions, so that no retrenchment may be made necessary." Carried. The Rev. A. Dowdney was elected Secretary, and Mr. A. Holy re-elected Treasurer. In the evening a missionary meeting was held in the Tabernacle, when stirring appeals were made for continued support. At to-da.y's conference of the Baptist Union the following officers Arere elected : — President, Rev. R. S. Gray ; Secretary, Rev. J. J. North ; Treasurer, Rev. A. Chedgey.
Mr. A. B. Watson, Boatswain of the Karamea, Tvho had flis arm torn off while on duty a few days ago, is reported from the hospital to-day as having made some improvement. At 10 a.m. 10-morrow judgments will bo giveii in the Supieme Court in the cases of Tait v. the Mapourika Gold Dredging Company and Bannister v. CMene..
