Moore and Mary Ann Mills were brought up in the Magistrate's Court to-day, the former being charged with the murder of Lottie Ancell, and the latter with aiding and abetting him. The accused was remanded to appear at Wuipawa on Friday week.

The first heat of the Ladies' Fours, Star Boating Club, was rowed last evening over the northerly course. There were three crews competing, and the race i resulted in a win for W. Wilkinson (bow), P. Pye-Smith (2), J. Hamilton (6), C. E. Bridge (stroke), who finished two lengths and a half iv front of C. Girdlestonc (bow), W. J. Stcyen&on (2), ' H. Macdonnell (3), J. M'Kenz'ie (stroke). The third crew consisted of D. Isaacs luow), N. Chesney (2), H. Kitching [6), J. D. Scott .(stroke) being only about three feet behind M'Kenzie's crew. The race was sturted by Mr. J. Widdop, Deputy-Captain, and judged by the Captain, Mr. G. H. Bethune. To-morrow evening a special general meeting of the Star Boating Club is to be held to ar : range matters in connection with the club's annual swimming sports. A proposal is to be placed before the meeting that the sports this year be held at Lowry Bay. Should this be decided on the members and their lady friends will be conveyed to Lowry Bay in one of the ferry steamers, and a pleasant afternoon may be looked forward to. The following notice of motion was handed in at the Presbyterian Assembly this morning, and will be brought on in due course: — "That this Assembly expresses its deep sympathy with the brethren of the Free Churches in England in their patriotic and righteous opposition to the Education Bill which is at present under discussion in the Imperial Parliament, and the fervent hope and prayer that the unjust provisions of the Bill may be defeated, and a measure in harmony with fairness to the country as a whole may yet become law." « The Wellington Spiritualists Society an,nounces a seanco for to-night, paiticulars of which are advertised.
