FOOTBALL.
♦ THE WELLINGTON TEAM IN AUCKLAND. (From Our Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Wellington footballers were entertained on Saturday night, and taken, on a trip to Lake Takapuna yesterday afternoon. They will leave for the South by the Takapuna to-night or to-morrow, according $o the time of arrival of the San Francisco moil. The fracture of Monson'B leg is a simple one, and will take the usual time to heal. It now seems that the leg was broken by another Wellington man falling on it during the general collapse of Asher and three or four Wellingtonians. L. Wilson, who chipped his shoulder, and Meredith and Skelton, who cannot get extended leave, left for home by the Ngapuhi today, so that five vacancies must be filled fro;n Wellington for the Taranaki match on Thursday. There was a record attendance at Saturday's match — upwards of 10,000 — and £468 was taken at the gates, being the biggeat amount since the Englishmen were. in. Auckland fourteen years ago.
