THE CORONATION.

CELEBRATIONS THROUGHOUT NEW ZEALAND. THE GOVERNOR'S PUBLIC ltixjisrriox. The public reception held on Saturday afternoon by the Governor and tho Counte»s of Rauturly was very largely attended. An unusual feature was the number of children. Some babies in arms even wero among the vice-regal guests, their perambululor.s waiting outside side by side with the cabs and carriages. The small guests, however, conducted themselves with admirable decorum, the babies never i-atsing their voices and the youngsters wandering about in speechless ad-mira-ticiii ot the fairyland they had been permitted to enter. Their appreciation of the dainties provided in the tea-rooms was evident, and they wore permitted to carry their admiring explorations even upstaifi. The rooms looked very brilliant and beautiful. The Hon. H. C. Butler had superintended their decoration, and had succeeded in making every corner a harmony of cojour and form. Rose and a^iber were the predominant tints, nnd fcne soft yellow of^he wattle was massed in every nook and banked np in every corner .while sheaves of daffodils were set on table and cabinet and mantle•Lelf. A huge tree-fern, its trunk wrea'tl'ied with feathery creepers in which were set primulas all aglow with rich colour, stood at one end of the long ballroom. Here and there were placed some of the Countess's fine pictures of Mount Cook and the outlying islands. Tea -was served in the conservatory and the dining-room, and Minifies orchestral hjiitf played during the afternoon. The Countess wore a gown of rose pink glace veikid with tace-applfqued chiffon. The Governor and Lady Ranfurly shook hands with each guest as he or she was announced. The babies received special attention from the Countess.
