A woman who was convicted of drunkenness was given another chance, in view of her recent efforts to reform. Five firstoffencc drunkards were dealt with. At this week's meoting of the Wanganui Borough Council a letter was received from the Minister for Public Works stating that the Government had agreed to accept the Council's offer of £ for £ up to £375, and that it had a quotation for a clock and chimes to cost £750. The Government requested the Council to pay in £362 10s to the Government's account. Tho terms and conditions were accepted by the Council, and it was decided to nsk as to the earliest date when it was expected the clock would be in position. Upon the conclusion of hor Australian tour Miss Moore will rejoin her husband in America for a spell. Subsequently it is probable that the couple will rovisit fhe colonies. The Minister for Public Works has received a report showing that owing to heavy rain no work on the Makohino viaduct could bo done on twenty-two days in April and twenty-four days in May. It is believed that a ballast engine will bo able to cross the viaduot early next week.
