LOCAL AND GENERAL. ♦ The Bank of Now Zealand has, it is reported, had a very good year, the profits having been even greater than during the pievious twelve months. The bunk will not only be ablo to meet all the statutory disbursement*, including the £50,000 to the Assets Board, butwill bo able to pay over a further sum of £100,000 to the Board towards meeting any deficiencies that may arise on tho realisation of estates, as well as a 5 per cent, dividend to the shareholders. The Piemier hng received the following cable from the Agent4Jenoral : — "The War Oflice i 9 calling for tenders for canned compressed beef and mutton. Delivery of tenders to be made on 26th May. Delivery of meat, half in June and half in October at Woolwich. At the request of the War Office I am sending detailed Rpucitications. Parker, who is to go to South Africa as one of the teachers for the Boer concentration camps, is a daughter of Mr. Robert Parker, of Wellington, and was at one time in the service of the Wellington Board of Education.
