SATURDAYS TACHT RACES.

*" There was a stiff northerly breeze for the third of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club First-class Yacht Races on Saturday. All three competitors— Waitangi, Eainbow, and lorangi— were at scratch. lorangi got the best of the start, Rainbow being the last to get away. The three boats rounded the Pinnacle buoy in that order, but or the beat ud to Korokoro, Rainbow assumed the lead and rounded the next buoy a length ahead of , Waitangi, which was closely followed by lorangi. Rainbow kept ahead until she was close to the Queen's Wharf, a few yards away from home, when she got into the doldrums and was displaced by Waitangi, which carried the wind with her. The latter finished first, but with only a second to spare, flad Rainbow come in first she would have ..been disqualified, as she had fouled the KoroKoro buoy. lorangi finished 16 seconds behind Rainbow. Waitangi was Bailee^ by Mr. J. iJamieson, Rainbow by Mr. E. C. E. Mills, and lorangi by Mr. A. H. Turnbull. Waitangi has now won two out of the thre races, the third race having fallen to Rainbow. The third race for the second-class yachts was also sailed on Saturday, and was won by Siren (sailed by Mr. Willason) from scratch, by a minute. Atalanta, which was in charge of Mr. Collins, and wliich received three minutes' allowance, was the only other competitor. Siren has won all three races. Mr. J. B. Speed, Secretary of the Port Nicaolsqn Yacht Club, acted as judge and starter. .The handicaps were framecP by Mr. W. Munckton. An energetic canvass is being made on behalf of the Championship Rowing Regatta, which is to be held in Wellington on the 25th January! About 30 guineas have already been subscribed. His Excellency the Governor has been asked to give his support in making the regatta a success.
