The Secretary -for Agriculture and the Government Poultry Expert have returned to Wellington from an official visit to the north. The principal object of Mr. Ritchie's trip to the Auckland district wag to arrange matters in connection with the '"new experimental farm near Hamilton, and lay out ,lhe work to be done this season at the Wuirangi plantation. At Wairangi the Government now owns 2500 acres. The land there has bee,n found very suitable for. fruit-grow-ing, and the Agricultural Department will probably j increase the area of the present orohard by utilising the 750 acres recently added to the farm. About 1500 acres of the Wairangi land are .devoted to the growing of wattle, the bark of which finds a. rfttrlr ta% at the tanneries.
