BOWLING.

NORTHERN BOWLING ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Northern Bowling Association was held last evening in the pavilion of the Wellington Bowling Club. Captain Edwin (representing the Remuera Club, Auckland) presidod, and there was a fair attendance of delegates. la moving the adoption of the report and baiance-sheet, a precis of which has already been published) the Chairman congratulated the members of the Association upon the successful carrying out of the various tournaments held and upon having a credit balance of £44 in hand, the success of the tournaments was largely due to the cordial reception given to those taking part in them at the places visited. Interolub games would be held this year on the Wellington Club's green, and at the same gathering other interesting games would be played, including a match for prizes offered by the HuddartParker Proprietary. The Chairman also referred to the visit tf the New Zealand team to England. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers for the current year were elected as follows:— President, Mr. G. Matthewson (Gisborae); Vice-Preaident, Mr. D. J. Nathan (Wellington) ; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr. J. H. Mentiplay (Wellington), re-elected; Hon. Auditor, Mr. F. W. Haybittle (Wellington), reelected. A hearty vote of thanks was given Mr. Haybittle for his past services. In view of the amount of work that is before the honorary secretary in the coming season, the meeting made suitable recognition of the fact. The meeting considered the draft rules governing the next tournament. These were adopted, and ordered to be printed and circulated amongst the affiliated clubs. The rules with regard to, the Hud-dart-Paorker trophy (a twelve-guinea cup and, medals) were also adopted. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings. Reference was made at the meeting of the Northern Bowling Association last night to the recant cable message from Australia practically accusing the New Zealand section of the Australasian bowling team which recently visited England of being the cause of the disagreement that resulted! in the New Zealanders and Australians separating. The Chairman (Captain Edwin) was under the impression that there must have been some misunderstanding on the part of those who telegraphed the item to this colony. As to the allegation made that the New Zealanders were the weak section of the team, figures disproved that statement, the New Zealanders having effectually beaten both New South Wales and Victorian players. They had also in England made a very good record against some of the strongest clubs in the world. Mr. J. H. Mentiplay could not imagine how the report originated. It was certainly without foundation. He quoted the record of the play of the New Zealanders in Australia, and hoped that steps would be taken to refute the statements that had been made concerning the attitude and the alleged weakness of the New Zealand team.
