"Dr. Bill," which as presented by the Cosgrove Company descends from light' comedy into "screaming farce," was repeated at the Opera House lost evening. A fairly largo audience were highly amused at the ludicrous situatjonß into which Dr. Bill and his gay associates were led. "Dr. Bill" will "practice" again to-night; and to-morrow evening the company will revive the comedy "What Women Wed," under Vice-Regal patronage. A full house witnessed the clever act of tile De Wynne Bros, at the Theatre. Royal last night. Again they roused enthusiastic applause by the neat manner in which they did their balancing feats. This act alone is sufficient to fill the Theatre for some time to come. The Wprrall Bisters were again successful in their edngs and dances. Miss M*ud Hewson will make her final appearance this evening. In addition to Miss Alma Gray, Mr. Williams and the Redheads, and the other members of the company, Mr. Harry Shine and Miss Violet Elliott will appear to-night. Mr. Shine has an English reputation as a comedian and ' has just concluded a long engagement in Australia. The Empire Company again attracted a numerous attendance to the Exchange Hall last night, when encores were the order of the evening, despite the length of the programme. Mr. Fred. Albert has just arrived from Sydney, and joins , the company immediately, and Miss Myra Thompson is to make a reappearance) The feature of to-morrow evening's programme is to be a beauty show for the fair sex. The monthly meeting of the Yorkshire Society was held at the Trocadero last evening. The secretary urged members to pull more together in promoting Ihe next annual dinner, as the last had resuited in a loss. Mr. J. W. Helliwell spoke of the Yorkshire Miners 1 Association, a labo.ir organisation of somewhat surprising proportions. Fifty-six thousand members attended a recent conference, and these represented 128 lodges. The organisation had a reserve fund of a quarter of a million, the weekly contributions totalling about £1000. The latter part of the evening was devoted to euchre. The Wesleyan Literary and Debating Society will hold the annual elocutionary competition amongst its members at the Wesleyan Institute Buildings, Taranakistrect, this evening. Admission is free and the public are cordially invited to be present. The Rev. W. Shirer gave an interesting lecture to members of St. David's Literary Society, Petone, last evening, on the life of the late Major-General Wauchope from his boyhood to his death at the battle «f Magersfontein. The lecturer described General Wauchope as a gentleman of the old school, a staunch temperance man, and noted for the consideration he ahvays exhibited to those under his control. A high tribute of esteem was also paid to the Chaplain of the Black Watch, a Presbyterian minister known as Padre Robertson, who for three days sought after the body of his. friend and General. A, hearty vote of thanks was given the speaker. Altogether successful was the service of Bong "By the Seashore," given on , Tuesday evening in the Baptist Church, Vivian-street, by the members of the Junior Endeavour Society in aid of the funds of the N.Z. Baptist Missionary Society. The service of song, which is descriptive of life by the sea, -was illustrated by castle-building in sand by the girls, and rowing and fishing action-songs by the boys. Among those Who took part in the singing and reciting were Misses Cathie, Eglin, Fear, Nicol, Stanton, and Thompson, and Masters Hook, Larking, Johnson, R. Thompson, and A. Williams. Mr. C. Collins presided at the organ, and the connective readings were* read by Mi6s Dallaston. A word of praise is due to Mr. C. W. Dallaston, under whose condustorship the whole was given, for the time and attention, given in the training of the performers. A popular concert was given to seamen' in port by Mr. and Mrs. J. Godber ati the Missions to Seamen last evening. The crowded audience redemanded nearly all the items. The performers were Me* l dames Godber, Veale, Redstone, Misw* Godber (2), Malone, Arnold, Keys, Red? Btono, Young, Messrs. Godber, Redstono (2), Nash, Surrell, Taylor, Best (s.a. Wakanui), Rowlands (barque Alice). la. an interval light refreshments were-serv-ed by the hostess and helpers. Mr. James* Moore spoke from the chair under thtf heading, "Your answers wanted to three straight quejrtaons." Fourteen men signetf ihe pledge.
