TRAGIC STORY OF A DUEL.
The Gaulois states that a duel lately took place between a Marquis and a Count, both Spaniards. The Cdunt was a deadly shot, and as the duel was to be fought with pistols, the mother of the Marquis, who way passionately attached to her son, visited her son's opponent on the eye of the tight, and prayed him not to aim at her son. The Count yielded to her entreaties, and promised to aim away from her son. The duel came off in the' morning, and the Count, true to his promise, aimed away from his opponent, but the bullet, striking a stone in the ground, rebounded and hit the Marquis in the .head killing him instantly. The mother, on hearing the news, w^ent raving mad, and the Count was so overcome that he has entered a monastery of the White , Friars with a view to taking the oaths of that order. The story of the duel has caused a great sensatioo in Spanish society, but the names of the persons concerned are so far kept from public Irnowledge.
