AQUATICS. PORT NICHOLSON YACHT CLUB.

On Saturday afternoon the Port Nicholson Yacht Club got off the race for the cup presented in memory of the late Mr. E VV. Mills, one of the founders of the club, and for many years its President. There was a light wind from the north, and the sea was smooth. The event excited a great deal of interest owing to the meeting between Rainbow -(late of Auckland) and Waitangi. The former yacht won the Anniversary Regatta Race easily, but in a subsequent race she was beaten by Waitangi, and there was consequently much speculation as to the resuit of the third meeting in Wellington waters between those two boats. The handicaps, which were trained by Mr. W. Munckton, were aa follows : — Mr. E. C. E. Mills's Rainbow, scratch ; Messrs. Jamiesoii and Ueorgeson's Waitangi, 10mm ; Messrs. G. Alee and Co.'s Mantana, 28min ; Mr. J. OtLo Schwartz's Ataianta, osmin ; Dr. Jb ell's Alahina and Messrs. Johnson and Biacklock's Siren, each domin j Mr. A. H. Turnbull's 'Rona, 40min. The start was not a good one. Rainbow, Waitangi, Rona, ana Mahina were over the line before the signal Avas given, and they Avere therefore recalled, the result being that they lost time in getting away. Rainbow, with her owner at the tiller, soon overtook the boats that had made a good start, and she maintaiued tho premier position from then right up to the finish. Waitangi took three minr utes longer than RainboAV to cover the course, and was followed by Maritana 14min 25sec after Rainbow. Rona came home 29min 40sec, Siren i6min, Ataianta 36min 12sec, and Alahina 67min 2sec after Rainbow. On time allowance Maritana (sailed by Mr. 6. Martin) Avon by 3min 15sec from Rona; v»aitangi took third place 3min 20sec behind Rona. Although the Avind was light the Only 'boat which sported kites was Maritana, Avhich set a small gaff-topsail and a balloon jib for the run down from Korokoro. In the absence of Mr. Speed, Secretary of the Club, from Wellington, Mr. A. G. Johnson acted as starter, timekeeper, and judge, and w*s assisted by Messrs. H. M'Kenzie and D. Howard.
