» [BT TEMKIRAFH — OWK CORRE3VONDKNT.] MASTERTON, This Day. Mr. 6. S. M. M'Dermid, headmaster of the Ekelahuna School, has been transferred to Carterton. He will be succeeded by Mr. Demps'ey, of Hastwell. A man named Burgess was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour on Saturday for the theft of a watch at Tinui. Frank Vaughan was sentenced in the Magistrate's Court this morning to seven days' hard labour for using obscene language. A petition is in circulation, praying Mr. 0. A. Pownall to reconsider his determination to retire from the Mayoralty. Considerable dissatisfaction is expressed here at the report that the insurance companies intend -to raise the insurance premiums. There has not been a me here for month?, and when the high-pressure water supply was installed it was fully expected that there would be a reduction.
