THE SITUATION IN THE TRANSVAAL.
EXPECTED RAID ON NATAL. LONDON, 18th January. Two of tho largest Boer commandoes are stationed at Roosenkal, 25 miles west of Lydenburg, in the east of the Transvaal, and in the western Magaliesberg, west'of Pretoria. It is expected that General Botha is organizing a raid on Natal. Lord Kitchener reports that there are 3,000 Boers at Carolina, 25 miles south of Machadodorp, on the Delagoa Railway. Major-General Colville's column has been engaged with the enemy at Vantondershoek. The Boers were driven off with heavy loss. (Received January 19, 8.52 a,m.) LONDON, 18th January. The British prisoners held at Helvetia and Belfast, on the Delagoa railway, have been released. Pretoria is now full of troops.
