CRICKET.
The representative match between Wellington and Canterbury, Which commenced in Christchurch this afternoon, will decide the provincial championship of the colony. The United Tradesmen and Combined Drapers met on the Basin Reserve on Wednesday. The Drapers made 69 for nine wickets in their first innings (Wallace not out 19, Ell 13), and 55 for one wicket in >-c second (Talbot 26). The Tradesmen declared their first innings closed for 238 runs (J. Jones 128, T. Taylor not out 64, Niven retired 20). The match is not yet finished. The match, Junior Championship, Midland A v. Old Boys, concluded *on the Basin Reserve last evening, and resulted in a win for the Midlanders by an innings and 228 runs. The second innings of the Old Boys realized 211, the principal scorers being Simm 91, Logan 25, Darroch 21, Bothamley 19, and Odlin 17. Johnson, Wyatt, and 1 Smith divided the bowling honours. Old Boys and Wellington will finish their match at the College Ground on Monday evening, 5.30 sharp. The City Council has granted the application of the Wellington Cricket Association for leave to take voluntary contributions on the Basin Reserve on the oc-. casion of the matches Wellington v. Midland and Phoenix v. Old Boys. -
