IN DEFENCE. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir — With reference to the letter of date 6th inst. signal by ' James Edwards which appeared in your columns, I havo to say, as a resident in Grey town, and a. father of a, fumily Avho are still resident there, that} , I must take objection to the aspersions whioh are cast upon tho generation which is growing up in Grey town. Wo cannot always have our families under our eyes, however much we should wish to, and I think that our oonstable ha» quite enough to do looking after the public peaco without making himself a guardian of public morals. If your correspondent has any complaint to make, let him make it to the constable himself, when I am sure it will be taken notice of. I reckon that it is a cowardly thing to attack a public officer when he is disbarred by the rules of the Service from taking any notice or replying in any way in his own defence. Being an old colonist I write without fear or favour, and Iveg to subscribe myself — T. H. SMITH. Greytown, 7th November.
