A large meeting of natives of the Waikato and Ngatimaniapoto tribes is to be opened on 4th December at Tauwhare, in the Waikato, in order to discuss the boundaries of the proposed Waikato Council district in connection with the Native Lands Administration Act. NAPIER, 12th November. Owing to persons in receipt of outdoor relief exchanging ration orders for luxuries at full retail prices, the Charitable Aid Board proposes at the end of the year to purchase all supplies except bread and meafc from wholesale merchants and make a weekly distribution. A return laid before the Hospital Board at the instance of the Hon. J. D. Ormond shows that since, by order of the Inspector of Hospitals, the private wards were closed the Board loses £250 a year, which has to be made up by local taxation and Government subsidy (no subsidy was received on fees). A private hospital has been opened, where former paying patients go, and are attended by the whole honorary staff of the Hospital Board. It was decided to send a strong letter of protest at the enforcement of the closing order. CHRISTCHURCH, 12th November. The residence at Clareville- of Mr. Robert Waldin, horse-trainer, was destroyed by fire last night. The cause is unknown. The house, which contained four rooms, was insured for £100. In connection with the. charge against Charles Arnett of stealing £630, the police, in investigating the circumstances connected with the alleged mysterious poisoning of three rabbiters near Wyndham, are understood to have found evidence for the present charge. Arnett was agent at Mataura for a rabbit exporter, and Milne, one of those affected by the poison, had dealings Avith him, with the result that Arnett is said to have misappropriated money belonging to Milne. Arnett is stated to have been in camp on the day when the poison Was found in the sugar.
