Gaselee, commanding the British troops in China, stating that it is absolutely necessary to retain the naval contingent in China, and commending the usefulness of the men in police work. Sir William Lyne has replied that they may remain any reasonable time the r services are required. /MELBOURNE, This Day. The Premier (the Hon. A. M'Lean) has informed Mr. Chamberlaiu that the Victorian contingent may remain in China till March.
