TO THE EDITOR.
Sir— lt is not- the travelling public who want a central station, but a few people who have . shops on Lambtonquay, and want the passenger traffic diverted, so that they may do a little trade with them. It would be a greater white elephant than the Te Aro 'railway station. The people who reside, at Te Aro get out at the Thorndon railway station in preference to going to Te Aro by rail, simply because it is more convenient. A tram meets every train, there is no distance to carry your baggage, and you can get anywhere quicker by getting out at Thorndon, where there are more conveniences. In any case, a passenger would have to take a cab at the central station, as there are no trains. He might just as well take a cab at Thorndon. What we want is an up-to-daie tram service, and the abolition of *"ne present Te Aro railway station, which is not used. — I am, etc., . COMMON SENSE. Wellington, 2nd November, 1900.
