THE DRIVERS UNION AND MR. S. BROWN.

TO THJ? EI«TOH. Sir", — Mr. -Brown, whilst endeavouring in the first instance to mislead your readers on an important question' affecting tbe wharf workers, has failed to combat the arguments re same in my letter of the 19th instant, therefore I assume he admits the errors of his address and letters. It is refreshing to know that he pleads guilty to the charge re attending meetings and assisting in the formulation of counter claims, which bears out the correctness of my information, but endeavours to excuse himself on the ground of private interests, grouping, oto. Can Mr. Brown deny that the Drivers' Union requested a wage /of £2 ss, that he was in the chair at the meeting, and suggested a universal counter claim of £1 16y, which he successfully carried, his stated intention being to allow for a compromise between the two claims? If Mr. Brown considered it beneficial to his interests to attend those meetings, may I respectfully ask frhat he thought of those interests when the case was proceeding 'dur^ ing his absence from Wellington? Were they in the hands of his co-employers? If so, how is it he could not adopt that course at the meetings? Unlike Mr. Brow.n, I, of course, don't claim to be gifted with that amount of sense required, by the President of the Industrial Association, but I can safely say that all my writings are written through the medium of my own brains. — I am, etc. , W. T. YOUNG, Representative Seamen's Union. Wellington, 29bh October, 1900.
