MR. SAMUEL BROWN AND THE DRIVERS' EMPLOYERS.
TO THtf fcDITOB. Sir— ln your issue of the 22nd instant - appears the following under the signature of W. T. Young, representative of the -Seamen's Union: — "Mr. BroAvn has quite •forgotten his attendance at a meeting of 'drivers' employers when he was a mem,ber of the Conciliation Board and assisting the employers in the formulation of counter-claims to the demands of the : Drivers' Union." Not only did I attend, but I took the chair on several occasions, and I rather think I helped all parties by putting them into groups. I -was one of ninety employers brought before the f Board ; I was looking after my private interests, and will do the same acrain. I did not thiuk there was another man (except your correspondent) who had &o little sense as to imagine that Sim Brown would allow his private business to suffer if he could avoid it. The Dx'ivers came before me as a member of the Arbitration Court. Mr. Justice Marstin, President, announced in open Court that "as Mr. Brown was a party to the dispute he would take no part in ihe proceedings. Need I say any more? — 1 am, etc., ' SAMUEL BROWN. Wellington, 23rd October, 1900.
