LAND SALE AT GREYTOWN.

EVERY SECTION SOLD. At their Greytown rooms yesterday, , Messrs. F. H. Wood and Sons held a sale of land situate at-Moroa and Kaiwaiwai, on account of Mr. Jacob Joseph. There was a large attendance of buyers. Every section with the exception of the last three sold readily under the hammer, and these three were disposed of immediately after the auctioneer left the rostrum. The land comprised 1090 acres, and was subdivided into seventeen sections, ranging from 39 to 106 acres. The prices ranged from £7 12s 6d to £13 per acre. The result of the sale is salsfactory alike to vendor and the auctioneers. The purchasers must also be congratulated, as the prices wore such as to allow them handsome interest on their respective outlays. The terms of sale — 5 per ceht. cash, 6 per ; cent, in one month, and balance on mortgage — doubtless was a great feature; and it -is hoped that other owners will follow Mr. Joseph's excellent example. Messrs. Wood and Sons have within the past two or three years held auction sales of subdivisions of four large estates, and in each case have succeeded in disposing of every section. There is a strong probability of other estates being cut up and placed with the firm for sale.

At a special meeting of the Petone Homing Pigeon Club, held last evening, Mr. J. Abrahall, on behalf of members, made a presentation to Mr R. W. Dixon, the late treasurer, in recognition of his many and valued services to the club. One first offence inebriate was dealt with by Mr. F. M'Parland, J.P., at the Mount Cook Police Station this morning. Charles M'Makou, with several previous convictions, was discharged, in order to give him an opportunity of quitting the district by this afternoon's train. A meeting of the Newtown district branch of tho Liberal nnd Labour Federation will be held at (he Victoria Hull on Monday evening, and a "social" on the Bth November.
