BRISK DEMAND FOR SECTIONS. The desirability of Kilbirnie as a subli'ban residential locality was amply yesterday afternoon by the success "| the auction sale of that portion of Mr. tl. D. Crawford's property known as pouth Kilbivnie. Messrs. lisa-court ond Co.'s auction room was crowded to its hillesl extent. The sale was londucled by Mr. J. B. Harcomt, who before subraitHng the 103 sections offered rcfened to the propertyf its convenience and advantages for seaside and suburban homes, aud the value of lots therein in \icw of the pioposcd project of the City Cou.vui "to take over Mirami'.r Peninsula. Mr. llaianut. proceeded t4 offer to the highest bidder his choke at the amount of his bid of any section in Lho estate. This privilege fell to Mr. F. Frcyben,', vho selected section 48 at £4 10s a. Wl. This section is one of the best business cmier sites, having an extensive frontage to the main Miramav road. The sale then commenced, and proved one of the most sue* cessftil sales of suburban lands held in "Wellington for many years. Buyers compcted keenly for every section offered, and most of the lots were knocked down at prices well over the reasonabje reserves placed upon them. A total of 56 sections was disposed of, the proceeds a mounting to £7649 12s 4d. Mr. Crawford is to be congratulated on the result of his efforts to meet the 'growing requirements of the citizens of Wellington, and the auctioneers oivthe way in which „ Ihe property^ was sp laced before the public The balance o£ the unsold sections, ■which, although not bought, were well .sought after at the s«ic, are now in the luind<t of Messrs. Haxcourb and Co. for private sale at prices slightly in advance of yesterday's reserves.
