v The details of the proposed expenditure on defences at the four chief ports of the colony and at Westport, as recommended by the Defence Secret Committee, are as follows : — Wellington. — One 6in b.l. gun on h.p. mounting (available) ; two 6in q.f. guns, £70U0 ; ammunition, £6160 ; two 12-pr. q.f. guns, £1540 ; ammunition, £816 ; works, £9232 ; electric search. - light. £2500. Total, £27,24"8. Auckland. — Three 6in q.f. guns and mountings, £10,500 ; 400 rounds ammunition per gun, £9240 ; two 12-pr. qf. guns, Fort Bastion, £1540; two 12-pr q.f. guns, Port Resolution, £1540; ammunition for 12-pr3., £1632; alteration of works, £2000 ; electric light, Bastion, £2500; mine field (complete block), £2300. Total, £31,252. Dunedin.— Two 12-pr. q.f. guns, £1540; ammunition for ditto, £816works, etc., £3000. Total, £5356. Lytteflton.— Two 6in q.f. guns, £7000 : ammunition for ditto, £6160; barbette mountings for two Bin b.l. guns, £3500 • works, £16,228; electric light, £2500mine field, £2500. Total, £37,888.
