The latest news from Ashanti with regard to the operations of the punitive forces shows that the fetish town of Edesie was attacked by Captains Benson and Wilcox with a force of Akin levies. During the encounter many of the Akinese deserted, and Captain Benson was shot. DEVASTATING THE COUNTRY. GHASTLY RELICS OF THE RhrREAT. \ {Received September 13, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, 12th September. Major Mellis, with a column oi troops, has devastated the country south-west of Kumassi. He counted hundreds of headless skeletons along Sir F. Hodgson's line of retreat.
