In Clause 2, defiping public contract, an amendment by 'Captain Russell that £50 be substituted for £20 was lost by 42 fn 17. In the same clause Mr. J. Hulcheson moved that the words "any body who have the right to undertake the con^ struction pf any public work," be substituted for "any 'local authority " After some vigorous discussion the Premier said he would move as a further amendment that the words "any 'Education Board or Harbour 1 Board, or any local body," bs inierlcd after the, word, "public or olher y,ork.'"' After a lengthy debate the Premier's aineiMmeni, yans carried on the voices. Eventually ' the Bill was passed with the additibn of a clause providing penaltie§ for breaches of the law. NATIVE INTERPRETERS' CLASSIFICATION BILL. This Bill passed through Committee without amendment. LUNATICS ACT AMENDMENT. This BiR, which has gone through the Legislative Council, also passed its Committee stage without amendment. The House rose at 1.15 a.m.
