NEW ZEALANDERS IN CHINA.

AUCKLAND, 20lh July. There are several Aucklanders in Shanghai. The South British and New Zealand Insurances Companies have their head offices there. Mr. W. Cox, whose wife is a Wellington lady, is manager pf the former, and his assistant is Mr. J. M. Brigham, a son of Mr. J. M. Brigham, Secretary of the Auckland Harbour Board. Miss Cox, a sister of the manager, is also at Shanghai on a visit. The manager of the New Zealand Insuranco Company is Mr. Hudson, whose wife is a daughter of Mr. F. J. Moss, late British Resident at Rarotonga. The chief clerk is Mr. E. E. Parsons, a Bon of Mr. E. B. Parsons, Secretary of the Auckland Gas Company. Mrs. W. Wakeford Cox, referred to in tho above telegram, is a daughter of Mr. Dryden, of Karori. Amongst other European residents in Shanghai are Mr. James Whitlall (for several years representative of v the China Traders' Insurance Company in Wellington', 'and now manager of the company's branch in Shanghai), and his wife and family ; Mrs. Maundreti, wife of Captain Maundre-11, formerly of the Union Steam Ship Company, now in the China Steam Navigation Company's service, who is a daughter of Mr. F. Noble Campbell, of Wellington; and Mr. Harry Crombie, at one time in the Wellington branch of the South British Insurance Company, and now manager of the Sun Fire Insurance Company in Shanghai. Mr. Edmund Cousins (son of the late Mr. Peter Cousins, of Wellington), who owns property at the Hutt, is in the employ of Jardine and Co , merchants at Tientsin, and was recently rejoined by his wife and children, who had been in England. Mr. Morton Smith (brother of the Rev. Gibson Smith, of Invercargill, and brother-in-law of the Rev. James Gibb, of Dunedin), -who was for some time in the Government seivice in Wellington, is at Chi-fu.
