MAFEKING TROOPS ACROSS THE BORDER. ONE TOWN SEIZED AND ANOTHER THREATENED. (Received May 30, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, 29th May. The invasion of the western portion of the Transvaal from the neighbourhood of Mafeking has fairly commenced. One column has advanced to and occupied Zeerust, about forty miles northeast of the lately-beleaguered town, on the road to Johannesburg. Another large force is marching upon Lichtenburg, about forty miies southeast of Mafeking, on a road that ultimately connects at Potchefstroom with the south-western railway from Johannesburg to Klerksdorp.
