THE OTTAWA DISASTER.

Owing to lack of uuauimity between the different Premiers the proposal to make a joint Australian contribution of £10 5 000 to the Ottawa fire relief fund has been dropped. [New Zealand, it will be remembered, acted independently of the other colonies, and sent a contribution of £5000. i _____ ~* PARTICULARS OF THE FIRE. (Received May 30, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Details of the Ottawa fire received by the Vancouver mail show that it was caused through the chimney of a private house catching fire. Five square miles of territory were burned, and more than 2500 dwellings, factories, mills, stores, and other buildings, including half-a-dozen churches, were destroyed. The loss is estimated at £4,000,000. There had been seven deaths up to the time the mail left. About 3,500,000 feet of lumber were destroyed.
