The hearing of the charge of the murder of his wife agaiust Thomas Galloway was concluded at the Police Court 10-day, when the accused was committed for trial. A detective has arrested at Clinton Peter Robert Dewar, a cadet in the local Post Office, on a charge of 5 setting fire to the railway station and robbing the Post Office. It is understood Dewar has admitted tampering with registered letters. TIMAEU, 12th January. Frederick Dynkop, a fireman on the steamer Lincolnshire, was sentenced to a month in gaol for assaulting Captain Peebles on the wharf. WANGANUI, 12th January. At a conference between a committee o£ the Board aud Educational Institute's representative re the dismissal of a teacher, it was decided that the teacher's notice of dismissal be withdrawn and a mutually satisfactory arrangement made. AUCKLAND, This Day. A meeting of the guarantors and Executive Committee of the receut Industrial Exhibition was held yesterday. The surplus is £2000, and the Government offers £ for £ up to £2000 if the money is devol'ed to the erection of a technical school. A resolution was carried approving the proposal, with a clause added that accommodation be also provided for the Chamber of Commerce. A deputation was appointed to meet with the President and Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the Exhibition, with a view to conferring as to an amicable arrangement for the disposal of the surplus.
