THE OTAKI ELECTION.

The election of a successor to the late Mr. H. A. Field as member for Otaki will be held to-morrow. The Premier and the Native Minister are to speak at the Lower Hutt and Johnsonville respectively to-night in support of Mr. W. H. Field's candidature. At the same time Mr. Field will deliver an address at Tawa Flat. Mr. Morison will speak at the Upper Hutt to-night. Mr. Morison, at his meeting last evening, was presented -with a number of handsome' bouquets from Hutt ladies. Mr. Henry Walton, Waikanae, writes : — "As a number of the electors for the Otaki district are under the impression that I am running against Mr. Morison, I should like to disabuse their minds, by emphatically denying it, and I only trust that ail my old friends will rally round and give himu. their heartiest support. Fair play is bonny play.* We don't want to establish a Csesarism in our adopted land of freedom." Mr. Field addressed two meetings last night, one at Rikiorangi and one at Waikanae. At the former place At. Smith occupied the chair, and at Waikanae Mr. R. J. Port. Mr. Field dealt with personal matters affecting himself, apparently to the satisfaction of his audiences. At both places he received unanimous votes of thanks and confidence. Mrs. Field, who has been assisting her husband in his electioneering campaign, is at present confined to her room with the prevailing influenza.
