[raiss association.] Stratford, 29th July. An enquiry was held to-day into the late fire. The verdiot was that the fire wns caused by a defective chimney. The jury placed on record its appreciation of the efforts of tho Fire Brigado and Constable Ryan for the splendid work they did in suppressing tho fire, thereby saving the town from a most serious conngratiou ; also that provision should be ninde for the inspection of chimuovß while they were being built by a fire inspector. After n hearing lasting over twelve hours the Bench reserved its decision till Tuesday in the shop-breaking case in which R. I. Kernahan, J. P. Honan, aud J. P. Pope were the defendants. LrrrBLTON, Tins Day. H.M.S. Ringdove left for Akaroa at 8.30 o'clock this morning. [by telegraph — own conrespondknt.] Mastebton. This Day. A meeting of delegates of tho Mastprtou Road Board and Taratahi-Carterton Board rosolved to recommend that the boundary between Maiterton and Taratahi-Curtertou districts be the Ruamahunga River to ito junction with the Taueru River.
