Tho Auckland Electric Tramway Company has notified the City Council that it is now ready to go on with ita contract forthwith. Tho Council has ap- { jointed a committee to net with the egal adviser of the Council in looking over tho contract and getting tho deed prepared. Iho Mayor submitted to tho City Council last night a scheme of city improvements for water supply, drainage, paving, ami street-formation, involving a loan of £100,000. Tho matter has been referred to the Finance Committee, with the view of having an Empowering Bill passed authorising tho Council to raise the money as needed.
