PROPOSED ERECTION OP AN ABATTOIR. , [B7i- TELKtJRAPH — PRESS ASS&CIATIOX.j Nelson, This Day. ._ The Committee of the City Council that " was appointed in January to consider the question of au abattoir, recommended to the Council last ni^ht that steps be taken at once to establish an abattoir, and that 55 acres belon^im? to Mr. Tras'ic he purchased lor the purpose at a cost of £2100; also, that ratepayers bo asked to sanction a loan of £7500 at 4 per cent, ruteresl, to be seby a special rate of lid in the £. The report embodied n report by Mr. ■Gili-nth on the present slaughterhouses] which was of a very unfavourable diameter. The Council decided to discuss the proposal nt, a special meeUng next Tuesday. It was decided to purchase the Stoke ■Sandhills and foresbore for £300, for a public recreation ground.
