WELLINGTON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Welington Football Association to-morrow evening sets out that the past season was not on the whole a successful one. The number of clubs playing for the Senior Championship was the same as for the season of 1897, the newly-formed Petone Club entering the senior ranKs in the place of the Thorndon Club. The Committee notes with great satisfaction the increased numbers of players in the Third and Fourth-class Associations, and regard this increase as the most hopeful sign for Association football in Wellington. It would like to place on record its appreciation of the great services rendered to the game by Messrs. Fordham and Davenport in these classes. In this connection also the thanks of the Association are due to the Swifts Football Club for its generous aotion in presenting the Senior Challenge Cup, which had been won by the club outright,to the Association for competition among the members of the Thir^ and Fourth-class Associations. The question of providing sufficient and adequate grounds for the accommodation of these classes during the coming season is engaging the serious attention of the Committee. The New Venus Shield was won by the Rovers Football Club with a. record of 8 matches played, 7 won, 1 lost, 27 goals for, 4 against, and 14 noints out of a possible 16. The Senior Challenge Cup presented ,by the President was won by the QueenV Park Football Club, subject, however, to an appeal made by the Rovers to the English Association the effect of which has yet to be decided. The Junior Cup was Avon by the Diamond Football Club, with a record of JU matches ' played, 8 won, 2 drawn, 36 goals for, 6 agaiqst, and 18 points out of a possible 20. The Committee would like to tender the congratulations of the Association to the Junior Association on the success of its representatives on their Northern tour. The Third-class Cup was again won by the Red Crosa vJlub with the execellent record of 10'ihatches played, 10 won, 69 goalu for, 2 against, and 20 points out of a posniblo 20. This conHtitiiteH a record for any competition yet held under tho auKpicoß of the Association.
