o. [by telegraph. — own correspondents.] Greytown North, This Day. Snow covered the lower range of the Tararuas yesterday. A social gathering of Avelcome was given to the Rev. W. Ritchie by the Presbyterians of GreytoAvn last night. The Rev. M'Donald Johnston of St. Peter's, Wellington, A\ r ho has been appointed minister of the Church of England in this district, has entered upon his charge. An elderly couple named Gabrielle, with numerous previous convictions, Avere brought up at the Magistrate's Court today for vagrancy and soliciting alms. Gunville Gabrielle Avas discharged, but Lena Gabrielle Avas sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Masterton, This Day. Divorce proceedings have been instituted on behalf of Aaron Johnston, farrier, of Mauriceville, on the ground of his wife's alleged adultery Avith Christian Madson, of HastAvells, who is cited as co-respondent, and from Avhom £500 damages is claimed. Carterton, This Day. St. Mark's Church is to be improved by the addition of an organ-chamber and choir vestry, and the roof of the building is to be covered with corrugated iron. Great preparations are in hand for the district meeting of the Independent Order of Rechabites, Avhich takes place here on Monday next.
