THE DREYFUS SENSATION. HOSTILE REPORT ON THE GOVERNMENT BILL.
THE MINISTRY STAKES ITS EXISTENCE ON THE QUESTION. [PBBBS ASBOCIATION.J (Received February 8, 9.80 a.m.) Pabis, 7th February. The Bill introduced by M. Lebret, Minister of Justice, to refer the Dreyfus case to the whole Court of Cassation as soou as the preliminary investigation now being conducted by the Criminal Chamber of the Court has been concluded, but still leave the ultimate decision to the court-martial, has been under consideration by the Procedure Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. This Committee, by nine votes to two, passed a resolution rejecting the measure, and also decided that the report on ex- Judge De Beaurepaire's charges, recently drawn up M. Mazeau, First President of the Court, and which formed the basis of the Government Bill, be published, together with the depositions of the witnesses examined before the Court. The Premier (M. Dupuy) has accepted this hostile recommendation as a challenge to the Government, and has declared his intention to make the acceptance or rejection of the Bill a question of confidence in the Ministry.
