MR. JOHN LUNDON, EX-M.H.R.

Mr. John Lnndon, formerly member of the House of Representatives for the Bay of Islands, died at the district hospital of heart disease, after a few days' illness. He arrived in the Westminster in 1843. He served in Colonel Nixon's cavalry in the early part of the Waikato campaign, and was afterwards captain of the Onehunga Rifles. He took a prominent part in local politics in the early days, and became a member of the Provincial Council. When Sir Robert Stout was Premier, Mr. Lundon went to Samoa to endeavour to secure the annexation of the group to New Zealand. He was instrumental in forming a special settlement north of Auckland.
