The Council of the Fire UnderAvriters' Association ot New Zealand — of which Mr. Frank Allen, General Manager of the Commercial Union Assurance Uompany, was President — has just closed its session. Edgar The President informed the Council that the losses of all the companies doing busi,ness in Ne\v Zealand for the year 1898 amounted to £302,490. ■ The officers elected for the ensuing year Avere : — President, Mr. F. H. Pickering, General Manager of the Sun Insurance office (Mr. F. Allen having decided not to accept the office for the current year ; Vice-President, Mr. W. Craig, General Manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company ; Committee, Messrs. H. A. Banner (controlling officer of the Norwich Union), J. Kirker (General Manager of the South British Insurance Company), J. A. LaAV (controlling officer of the Royal Insurance Company), R. M. Simpson (General Manager of the Phcenix Assurance Company), and H. Walkley (controlling officer of the London and Lancashire Insurance Company).
