HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The fortnightly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held this morning. There were present — Messrs. F. H Fraser (Chairman), R. C. Kirk (Mayor of Petone), G. Webb (Mayor of Melrosg), J. Collins, J. Danks, and C. M. Luke. ' The tender of Judd and Randell for plumbing was accepted. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. Collins, who has gone to Dunedin to attend an examination, and to Dr. Martin, who is on his wedding tour, and it was also decided to offer the latter very hearty congratulations on his entrance into the married state. The resignation of Sister Mary (Miss Irwin) was accepted, and Nurse Hutchinson was appointed to the vacancy on probation. The Trustees considered a recommendation of the Medical Superintendent and the Matron that three more housemaids should be engaged in order to ensure the .absolute cleanliness of the wards. Mr. Collins suggested that a room should be set apart for the use of those patients who were able to smoke. When he was in Birmingham he noticed that provision was made in that direction at a lai'ge hospital which he visifid there. Mr. Kirk thought it would be undesirable to increase the staff at present seeing that the accommodation was insufficient even for the present staff. The Trustees decided to refer the matter to the House Committee.
